On the Concept of the Radar Cross Section RCS of Distorting Objects like Wind Turbines for the Weather Radar
نویسندگان
چکیده
The applicability of the mono-static radar cross section (RCS) for the weather radar (WR) and the wind turbines (WT) is evaluated by theoretical and numerical results. It is concluded that the RCS scheme is not applicable for objects on the ground and is not a useful parameter for the definition of safeguarding distances of WT to the WR. Proposals for a deterministic case by case numerical treatment are made. Some system aspects of WT are discussed with regard to the modern signal processing of WR. Key terms weather radar, RCS, safeguarding distances, wind-turbines, numerical analysis, signal processing

Modified Physical Optics Approximation for RCS Calculation of Electrically Large Objects with Coated Dielectric
The Radar Cross Section of a target plays an important role in the detection of targets by radars. This paper presents a new method to predict the bistatic and monostatic RCS of coated electrically large objects. The bodies can be covered by lossy electric and/or magnetic Radar Absorbing Materials (RAMs). These materials can be approximated by the Fresnel reflection coefficients. The pro...

In this paper, a new method for radar cross section reduction of a monopole antenna is proposed. In this method, a plasma helix like fluorescent bulbs is placed around the antenna element. The selected plasma parameter for this medium acts as an absorber without disturbing the antenna performance. The simulations show that radar cross section of simulated antenna is reduced in a wide frequency ...
متن کاملA quantitative analysis of the impact of wind turbines on operational Doppler weather radar data
In many countries wind turbines are rapidly growing in numbers as the demand for energy from renewable sources increases. The continued deployment of wind turbines can, however, be problematic for many radar systems, which are easily disturbed by turbines located in the radar line of sight. Wind turbines situated in the vicinity of Doppler weather radars can lead to erroneous precipitation esti...
متن کاملA new approach to wind turbine power generation forecasting, using weather radar data based on Hidden Markov Model
The wind is one of the most important and affecting phenomena and is known as one of the significant clean resources of energy. Apart from other atmospheric parameters, the wind has complex behavior and intermittent characteristics. Local phenomena can be accompanied by the wind, which is strong, non-predicted, and damaging. Weather radars are capable of detecting and displaying storm-related ...
متن کاملWind turbine impact on operational weather radar I/Q data: characterisation and filtering
For the past 2 decades wind turbines have been growing in number all over the world as a response to the increasing demand for renewable energy. However, the rapid expansion of wind turbines presents a problem for many radar systems, including weather radars. Wind turbines in the line of sight of a weather radar can have a negative impact on the radar’s measurements. As weather radars are impor...
